How everything started

The idea for The SOULMATES popped up after a gig with Richard Broadnax towards the end ot the gospel season 2005. Manuela mentioned that she would like the season to go on. The choir was so well in form. Sonja took up the idea and proposed to create a new vocal funk and soul band. Both Cherry and Freddy liked the idea.

The main purpose of the band would be to enjoy singing funky soulmusic together. On the same evening Sonja asked Greg if he was interested to join The SOULMATES as keyboarder and singer. And in the backhand she had already Jean-Marc (guitar) and Chris (bass), friends since over 20 years and part of the rhythm section of SPLIT. Only a short time ago they had started to play with Haig (drums). So The SOULMATES were complete for a start.

Now we began to manifest our dreams. Step by step. Motivated by the joy of it. In April 2006 we met each other for a first audition. And it was promising. And most importantantly: we felt good vibes among ourselves! Finally The SOULMATES were born.

We started to build a repertoire. And we did that in the living room of Sonja and Jean-Marc. For those of you who would like to get an idea we have added a few MP3's from our first rehearsal. Since then we rehearse and prepare.

In November the saxophone player Florian Egli has joind our band. Program and repertoire for our first concerts were built.

The Premiere of The SOULMATES takes place on Thuesday May 22, 2007 in the Jazz-Club Moods, Zurich, Switzerland. Already confirmed are further concerts, on Friday June 15, 2007 in SCALA, Wetzikon and on Friday August 31, 2007, in the Jazz-Club Bülach.

And we hope to see you soon at one of these gigs.
